Community Guidelines
Chronicles of Earth is a destination site where people can go to create, tell, and share their stories, interests, discoveries, and concerns about our planet Earth via
a Chronicle. A Chronicle is an account of facts and events in chronological order and the places where they occurred.
We believe that the Chronicle as a media type is a very powerful tool for telling factual stories and documenting real events as they occur and can be used as a tool
that promotes associative thinking and exploratory learning.
You have control over who sees your Chronicle and you have control over what content such as data files, written text, computer software, music, audio files or other
sounds, photographs, videos or other images that you put into your Chronicle and what goes into your Chronologue®. You decide if you want to keep your Chronicles private,
share them with selected individuals or groups, or make them public and accessible to any one that goes to the Chronicles of Earth web site.
At any time employees of Chronicles of Earth or Fyreplug Inc. can review your content, or when you share your content any visitor of Chronicles of Earth can
flag your Chronicle and indicate that this Chronicle contains offensive content or it violates the Terms of Use or the Community Guidelines. All
the user has to do is click the "Flag" button and it will be submitted for review by Chronicles of Earth staff and shared or public access will be denied and you
will be notified that this occurred.
Pornography, child abuse, gratuitous violence or offensive content is very difficult, if not impossible to define, but we believe that a common person "knows what
it is when they see it", and if we see it or find it, we will flag it and remove it. So please have respect for all visitors and members of the Chronicles of Earth
community and please have respect for our Planet Earth - there is only one.
Here are some common-sense rules that will help you make positive contributions to the Chronicles of Earth ("COE"):
- COE is not for pornography or sexually explicit content. If this describes content in your Chronicles, do not post it on COE.
- We report child pornography and child exploitation to the appropriate law enforcement agency with jurisdiction.
- We consider content depicting animal abuse, drug abuse, under-age drinking and smoking, or bomb making to be offensive
- Graphic or gratuitous violence is not allowed. If your video shows someone being physically hurt, attacked, or humiliated, don't post it.
- Do not post content of accidents, dead bodies or similar things if your intention is to shock or disgust.
- Respect all copyrights. Only upload content that you made or that you are authorized to use. Do not use content in your Chronicles that someone
else owns the copyright to, such as music tracks, snippets of copyrighted programs, or videos made by other users, without necessary authorizations. We
believe that you want other people to respect your copyrights.
- We encourage free speech and will defend everyone's right to express unpopular points of view. Hate speech (speech which attacks or demeans a group
based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, and sexual orientation/gender identity) will not be permitted.
- Predatory behavior, stalking, threats, harassment, intimidation, invading privacy, revealing other people's personal information, and inciting others to
commit violent acts or to violate the Terms of Use are taken very seriously. Anyone caught doing these things may be permanently banned from COE and will be
reported to the appropriate law enforcement agency with jurisdiction.
The COE team reviews flagged Chronicles 24 hours a day, seven days a week to determine whether they violate our Community Guidelines. When they do, we
remove them. Sometimes a Chronicle does not violate our Community Guidelines, but may not be appropriate for everyone. These Chronicles may be age-restricted.
Accounts are penalized for Community Guidelines violations and serious or repeated violations can lead to account termination. If your account is terminated, you
will not be allowed to create any new accounts. For more information about how the Community Guidelines are enforced and the consequences of violating them,
please visit the Help Center.
We wish that we did not have to post these guidelines, but the actions of a few individuals have forced us to do so.
